Kai Bates


Specializing in innovative, sustainable design, Kai joined Streetsense in 2015 as a Project Designer in the Planning Studio. In this role, Kai focuses primarily on planning and designing mixed-use urban developments and suburban retrofits with the overall goal of improving quality of life, livability, and sustainability.

Prior to joining Streetsense, Kai worked as an Urban Design Consultant for International Making Cities Livable in Portland, OR, and contributed to numerous urban design projects for several firms, including Qamar Architecture + Town Planning, Urbsworks, and Michael Watkins Architecture & Town Planning. In addition to his urban design and planning experience, Kai has an extensive background in web design, graphic design, communications, and project management. Kai earned his Master’s degree in Community and Regional Planning from the University of Oregon, and he has a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from The American University in Washington, DC.
