Widewaters Hotels, an innovative hospitality management group with hotels around the United States, and the Curio Collection, an upscale Hilton hotel brand, together approached Streetsense to help create a uniquely Portland, Oregon hotel.
Recognizing a prime opportunity to tap into Portland’s burgeoning travel market, Widewaters Hotels and the Curio Collection engaged Streetsense to conceptualize and design an iconic hotel that would celebrate the culture and soul of downtown Portland. Putting the collective’s interdisciplinary expertise to work, Streetsense architects, interior designers, and brand strategists came to together to develop this project from start to finish — designing the full interiors from the ground floor up, as well as crafting messaging and marketing collateral that introduced the new property to the Portland scene.
The Streetsense team drew inspiration from The Porter’s surrounding landscape, incorporating local personality into all hotel amenity and food + beverage spaces. An Italian-inspired restaurant on the ground floor — outfitted with a show kitchen and street-level pizza pick-up window serving Romano style slices — embraces Portland’s laidback and outgoing personality, while a market selling locally sourced products reflects The Porter’s commitment to supporting local business. The hotel’s top floors house a stunning bar with bold, colorful light accents and a modern restaurant serving both exotic Eastern nibbles and continental classics with a twist — all with unbeatable views of downtown. Each guest suite was also designed to embody the local Portland vibe, with sleek elements softened by rustic touches to give each space an undeniably comfortable feel.
In conjunction with the architectural and interior design processes, Streetsense’s Brand studio developed content for a creative marketing strategy that helped bring The Porter’s unique brand to life. Stemming from foundational brand visioning, strategists and designers together created messaging and imagery to illuminate the new concept, as well as videos and renderings that were used for building advertising and promotional collateral.
Forward thinking in both concept and design, The Porter project was a fully immersive, collaborative Streetsense effort that elevated unique design attributes and established the hotel as distinctly Portland.
