Burlock Coast

Fort Lauderdale, FL

With over 100 years of history, The Ritz-Carlton has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to service. The acclaimed brand has been recognized numerous times as the gold standard in hospitality.

When The Ritz-Carlton wanted to reposition its restaurant offering at their Fort Lauderdale hotel, they turned to Streetsense to create a dining destination that appealed to both locals and hotel guests. To differentiate the restaurant in the crowded Fort Lauderdale beachfront market, Streetsense tapped into the city’s vibrant past. Drawing inspiration from coastal Florida’s role in the illegal rum trade in the 1920s, Streetsense branded the restaurant Burlock Coast — a nod to the inventive burlap contraptions that rumrunners used to smuggle spirits illegally up and down the coast.

The concept is clearly communicated by design decisions throughout the restaurant’s indoor-outdoor dining area, bar, and marketplace, which are unified by an authentic, rough-around-the-edges vibe. A locally-sourced, seafood-focused menu rounds out the restaurant’s coastal story for a cohesive, story-driven dining experience. Burlock Coast has resonated with locals and hotel guests alike, driving revenue to the entire hotel and increasing food and beverage sales by 50% in its first year.
